How do i get a shy boy to talk to me?

ok so my friend is trying to get me out on the dating site but im a shy kinda person and i kind of get nervous round boys. so my friends bday party is coming up and he is inviting this guy who he thinks might be my type. he says hes really shy and i might like him and i want to get to know him. thing i when im around guys that i might like i kinda go into a crazy person so i want to be calm and collective. when i meet him what should i do to get his attention?
