Seriously, what is the point of going THIS deep into poetry?

My english teacher makes us write about the theme, sound devices which include; onance, consonance, onomatopoeia, internal rhyme, and he makes us paraphrase it. We have to discuss the speaker, tone, mood, structure, imagery, topic, and a hell of a lot more. Why? I mean, I JUST entered high school.
